The Story – you ran away

Do you remember the day you packed a suitcase and left me while I was at work? Just you, a suitcase and two of the cats?
Do you remember what the note said that you left on the hallway side?
Can you remember how much cash you left next to it like you were paying a hooker? Maybe you thought the last 3 years had been a scene from ‘Pretty Woman’? You always did live in the movies…
Do you remember the tremble of my voice when you picked up the phone? Do you remember what you said? Because I do…
Do you remember how it felt to be a coward and run away?
Here are a few things you don’t know.
You don’t know how it felt to call you at lunch to hear your number was disconnected.
You don’t know how it felt to know instantly that you had left.
You don’t know what it was like, to peer through my own letterbox to see if the apartment light was out, too afraid to try the door.
You don’t know what it was like to find that note and cash and have your deepest fear confirmed and you don’t know how it felt to be abandoned like an unwanted child after three years.
you kissed my mouth and told me you loved me that morning.
For me it was just another normal day.
I was happy and you ran away.
