I got a stain on his favourite hoodie, the one he would let me wear.

The stain wouldn’t come out,

so I couldn’t help but feel like he left with a piece of me when he took it back.

Eventually he would leave with more than just his hoodie.

He left with the fragments of my heart,

shards of my trust protruding from between his ribs,

put there by the final hug I couldn’t give

and my very own tears falling from his eyes.

I was left with nothing.

You see, that’s the thing about a trust that is broken,

the pain created by the truth is never as great as the pain caused by the lie.

The lie will always take more than it gives and just like his hoodie,

it will always leave a stain on a relationship that will never quite wash out.
